If I remember right, the 10 meter conversion in the Surplus radio Perversion Manual removes the BFO and rewires it as an additional audio stage -- plus, the AF output transformer is changed to one feeding a speaker.
Ten meters was apparently mostly an AM band in those days.
I think there is a similar conversion in the CQ Command Sets book as well. Not sure whether it uses a 3-6 or 6-9 receiver as the basis.
