Did the USAAF modded rx's get a "custom" frequency dial? Or was there some sort of interpolation chart?

 but they usually modded the 6-9MHz sets. 
No. This one was definitely a ham mod. Big blobs of solder various places, 
ires cut and left hanging, etc.
