About 30 years ago, there was an active group called The World Future Society (scary name....) that had an "agenda" for human progress. Cars designed to last 25 years were a big item on their agenda.

Driving an 84 Volvo 240 with 260K miles. Runs much better and stays running :-) since I found the electrical connector going to the fuel injection module was oxidized and gummed up. De-Oxit to the rescue. It's not just for radios. This problem created months of agony and the car sitting in the driveway as it was unreliable.

One modern convenience in the car is an IC-706MKII.
