Usually, the big-box craft stores are excellent sources for nearly everything we ever mess with, except for electronic parts.
I wish I could say "I thought everybody knew that..." but I know it's not true. However -- if your wife or significant other is "crafty" it certainly pays to pal around with them when they want to go to the craft store. Hmm, my ex- has a very nice soldering stand and variac-equipped 140W iron, thanks to moi, and all built from surplus, and in return I know where to get all kinds of cool glass-working stuff (like the circle-cutter I got to make replacement round meter faces!!) and copper foil and sheet.
