There is something strangely satisfying with beating a dead horse, as if 
it will rise up and begin working again.  Beating a dead car elicits 
much the same hope, but it takes a 5 pound sledge to do it correctly....

Greases have changed a lot since 1945.  If you run it for fun every so 
often I wouldn't worry about it.  It's more important to clean out the 
brush dust periodically so it doesn't contaminate the grease you *do* 
have in there.  The old greases they specified for those bearings were 
general purpose, not formulated for high speed instrument bearings.

Hearing an 800-1 should be on your bucket list.  It's very 
satisfying...like beating a dead horse...:-)
