IMHO, ARC Type 12 stuff is unusually well made. As far as I am concerned, 
it easily rivals the best of Collins-made gear.

There are at least two pieces I am very glad that I have: one is the BC band 
receiver (R-10, I think) and the other is the 190 to 550 KHz version.

Although neither one has a BFO, that can be relatively easily fixed.

And the lack of a dial is also not difficult to change if you have a derelict 
274N or AN/ARC-5 receiver covering the same range: the tuning capacitors 
are interchangeable with a little work.

Or you can use an ARC-5 remote tuning job with a bit of "speedometer 
cable" between them.

In any case, I am very glad I have those I do.
