[ARC5] SCR-578 BG-109 found!

Hi All,

A friend of mine just dropped off a partially complete BG-109 he found at
an estate sale yesterday.  The contents were the M-357-A kite still in its
tube with an order number of 5896-WF-43 (I'm not going to take it out),
the W-148 spare roll of antenna wire  still in its container, the M-308-B
signal lamp with its spare bulb in a little pouch but the container is
misshapen with no lid and the 19 August 1943 AN 08-10-94 maintenance manual
for the SCR-578-A and -B.  The tube inside the bag is in pretty good shape
and has its cover.  The bag is pretty grungy and I'd like to clean it up at
least so that my wife won't be too upset at my putting it on display next
to my Gibson Girl.  I don't think I can get the bag off of the cardboard
tube though, it's very tight and I'm afraid of damaging both the canvas and
the tube.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what to do or not do along the lines
of cleaning the canvas?  Was that cardboard water resistant?
