Most of the photos were made on the late, lamented 
Kodachrome.  Kodachrome had the advantage of dyes which were 
very stable in dark storage so that color pictures which are 
seventy or more years old look virtually the same as when 
first made.  The LOC has a huge collection of both 
Kodachrome and B&W photos from the Office of War Information 
and other sources that show WW-2 manufacturing and other 
activities.  Shorpy gives a good selection of these.
