There's an interesting SCR-274-N transmitter control box BC-451-A pictured
for this auction: http://www.ebay.com/itm/300862234860 .
This is interesting because it has been definitely used in service. The
channel (transmitter) 1 position has the frequency written in, which is
seldom seen. The frequency is 3023.5 kHz, which replaced the popular
civil aviation aircraft frequency of 3105 kHz in the late 1940s. It
seems odd to think of a BC-696-A transmitter being set to half-kHz
intervals, given its 10 kHz per minor division dial scale, but there's
no reason why it shouldn't be, with an external calibration standard.
This also seems to indicates that this unit was used in a SCR-274-N
transmitting system that was still in use about five years after the
end of WWII.
BTW, 3023.5 kHz is allocated today to search and rescue service.
