Hi Ken,

Reading about your (mis)adventures with that radio has helped me firmly
make my mind about seriously altering an R-23/BC-453 type radio that
might be considered a "basket case" to go on 160 meters directly. I'm
just going to go with a converter for that band and forget about all the
butchery. I was leaning toward that anyway but the "conversion"
possibility kept coming back.

I have a basket case/hangar queen unit here and the missing parts (some
sheet metal) are not the ones needed to get it working again. I am going
to use that one for a solid state version with modules to plug into the
tube sockets. Some day those can be pulled out and real tubes plugged
back in and operate with no other effort.

Making progress toward my "four in a row" setup and none of the radical
conversion stuff!
