I recall reading that in the summer of 1945, before Japan surrendered, the Fed Govt gave permission for aircraft manufacturers to start building personal airplanes again.
My Ercoupe is S/N 513. Came off the assembly line on 18 Feb 1946. They built 112 before the war so they wasted no time in getting back into production. Of course I would guess there was a lot of aluminum and other materials available with the huge scaleback in war production.
And we sure did have people who know how to build things, then. Lots of it, high quality, and fast!
