Hello Ken,
I'm really enjoying your saga. I have hidden agenda - I have a
similar chassis that will benefit from your experimentation.
In your HF osc coil, a rubber band is likely to perish. Try BluTak
instead.

First of all, I must commend Mike's coil dope formula: it is very
excellent stuff. I painted a
layer of it on the HFO coil and it hardened to a very clear, thik
coating that looks and feels
very solid.
However, that wasn't the most important discovery I made today: the
slug in the oscillator coil
is loose as a goose. It literally wobbles around on its threaded
shaft. Clearly, the least
movement of the receiver would cause the slug to move, thereby
changing the frequency to
which it is tuned.
I haven't yet decided how I am going to tighten it without simply
gluing it in place.
It took 14 complete turns to remove it, BTW.
I am thinking about attempting to embed a bit of rubber-band in the
threads, or
beeswax...maybe I can let a drop of Super Glue, or a very thin layer
of it, harden on the
threads, after which I can re-install the slug by putting a drop of
Acetone inside the slug and
screwing it on quickly.
Suggestions cheerfully accepted.
