If you are NOT a Facebook user - then I doubt highly that Facebook is
scraping YOUR address book for prospective members. It is more likely that
one of your friends that has you in their email address book and is
using their imported contacts in the find FB friends feature- If you got
an invite from Facebook it is because someone you know choose to send you
one - I don't use that feature myself.
There is a method for non Facebook users to opted-out of invites from
friends and it is found here:

I get mails from "Facebook" and "LinkedIn" all the time- probably 4-5 a
week , except the those emails aren't from Facebook and LinkedIn, they
are actually from phishing sites that want recipients to unwittingly give
up passwords/user info to use for nefarious purposes. Fortunately, my
Google Gmail does a pretty good job of rejecting them. If in doubt, don't
click, but hover, over the link with the cursor and you will see that the
link is something crazy like e.facebook.com.rr or linnkedinn.com
As for linkedIn they had a data breach a couple of years ago the reveled
the emails of several thousand members (including me) but not my
password. Fortunately, they responded quickly, and so did I, by changing my
password to secure my account from damage.
Those sites would not be as popular if they had reputation/reliability
problem - I imagine it is a big challenge for those corporations to keep
up with the threats from hackers constantly trying to
breach their firewalls.
I'm not trying to be a "fanboy" of any of the above mentioned companies,
but I just wanted to add my personal perspective since I enjoy both
services and continue to do so now and in the future.
