[ARC5] T-17-D disassembly

Hi All,

I looks like I have been successful in repairing two of my T-17-B mics, one
with a T1 500 series telephone mic and one with an N-1 boom headset mic. I
had to use my Dremel tool on both mics, the case of one so the T1 would fit
and the front piece of the other so the N-1 would fit.

Now I am looking at a T-17-D which has a good cord and good one piece body
but a bad mic element. I can fit an N-1 into the front piece after I
remove some plastic but I don't see how to get at the switch to clean and
lube it. I have another T-17-D with a bad cord and have tried to remove
its mic switch cap by holding the knurled ring and turning the plastic cap
- no luck so far - and to loosen the two screws that apparently hold the
cord strain relief but they only will move a couple of turns outward and
seem to come to a hard stop. They won't go in far enough to clear the body
either. I wouldn't mind sacrificing the one mic to figure out what to do
with the one I want to fix but I'd rather find out the "right way" without
having to resort to ugly methods.

Also I can see that there were at least four quite different case/internals
arrangements, the three I've described and one more where the mic was built
into the metal casting and is not removable at all. Well, I could destroy
the mic structure and get it out in pieces but then it looks like the mic
element body is machined into the metal case front section.

As Robert said, the mics were direct replacements for each other but the
piece parts were not interchangeable at all except sometimes if the mics
were made by the same company.

Thanks for reading,

Clare N2RJB
