Thank you, David. I must admit to being quite surprised at just how well this 
kludge works, despite the fact that the 12SK7s are supposed to "roll off" 
above about 20 MHz.

So far, that isn't obvious. I'll be checking S+N/N ratio as soon as I have it 
finished.

Since this thing was so messed up, after replacing all the bad caps, the 
missing audio transformer, and repairing the messed up wiring, I went ahead 
and replaced the usual BFO switch, 'phone jack, and RF gain control which 
were aleady there, but badly done. 

I also added 1st-IF gain/regeneration, an AF gain control, and a 
dual-series-diode adjustable noise/output limiter, all in/on a replacement 
panel for the front-panel box. 

That had been hacked out before I got the receiver.

I used those hexagonal Radio Shack knobs which have the brass inserts, 
and miniature switches. It is beginning to look half-way decent. I hope it 
works as well as it looks.

I'll post some photos on my website as soon as I can.
