While it is true that the regulator does not strike in  those models,
I've found that, at low B+, it's not needed.  The set stabilizes
quite well without all the extra heat and leakage currents.

If one wishes regulated lower B+, 5-Watt zeners at just about
any voltage level into the hundreds are cheap.  A MOSFET
regulator set to any desired voltage is also inexpensive and will
easily fit under the deck with no set modfication required- just
tack it into the B+ buss.
IMHO, such "Borg Implants" are going to be the salvation
of many of our old sets.
