[ARC5] Noise in the shack...

Today, just to check, I fired up the BC-453B, tuned for and found my copious
noises, then shut-down the shack computer.
Result: no noise (other than some background static) from 560 KHz down to
320 KHz, except for a big one at 480 KHz....which went away as soon as I
shut-down the monitor.
At 320 KHz there is an obviously "local" narrow-shift RTTY station, which, I
think is part of that "new" high-accuracy GPS system that the gummint is
experimenting with.
THere are three such stations all quite close to me here.
Tonight, I'll do some NDBing, and 600 meter listening.
Last night, I also tried to connect to my 80/40 meter 55' vertical but the
results were far worse than my low, end-fed "long" wire.
I am going to get out the sling-shot and loft a wire to the top of our 100 foot
pine tree in the back yard to see if that will improve matters. The result will be
a 120 foot long "sloper", sloping towards the east.
