I wear a Nomex fire suit (coverall) and long Nomex underwear, even
on hot days in the summer. WHENEVER I get in the race car to start it.
Also Nomex socks, gloves and shoes. You have to wear at least two layers
(three or four is better) else in a fire the suit transmits the heat.
Layers are good. I blew the engine and had a serious fire back in 1997
when going 115 mph. Took 19 seconds to find a soft spot to get off the
track without hitting another car or something hard. 19 seconds is a
long time to sit in a fire. If I had not worn the Nomex I would not be here.
I did not even mind when the EMTs cut that $600 suit off me -
So - Nomex is good.
