Your options were correct.  Its the glide slope antenna.  Its placed 
there to try and keep the reception pattern unobstructed from any 
reflections.   Its about 5" long.   The VOR/LOC antenna(s) will be the 
ram's horn type (or whiskers) on the tail, etc.
