And to think that the Coke or Bud Lite can you may be drinking from was once a B-17 or B-25 or even a B-47 or B-52 or a Grumman canoe!

Very good points!
At the time all this radio gear was just more hardware associated with a painful
and expensive (although necessary) war.
Now it seems our government is skipping the surplus step and simply grinding up
ll no longer needed radio equipment.

Years ago I was hiking in Alaska on a steep, scree covered mountain side. I

eft it there for me to find nearly 100 years later. I started to put the can
n my day pack but then thought better of that as the mining site was part of a
tate park and removal of artifacts likely prohibited. Besides, leaving it
here presented the possibility for someone else to enjoy a moment of discovery
nd historic connection just like I did.

Then I realized if i had left MY lunch trash under a rock i would be risking a
tiff fine for littering.

Leaving todays trash under a rock is a violation of the law, removing someones
lse trash from under a rock is also a legal violation if the trash is old
nough.

Perhaps we should all me hoarding the contemptible curly fluorescent lights
ongress has ( temporarily I hope ) imposed upon us. Surely these lamps will be
aluable in the future as an important indication of the concerns of the time
ith none salted away in the museums of the land because of their utter
anality.

I love to look at pristine unaltered WW 2 radio stuff but the only thing that
aved most of that stuff from simply going back into the aluminum smelter was
he fact some poor ham though it was worth 5-12 bucks as a hobby project.

Well, our government destroyed thousands of vehicles that would now be
considered highly prized classics yet I hear little complaining.

They also forced shops to remove the short wave capabilities of home radios
from many loyal Americans who just happend to be immigrants from countries
 we were at war with.

I really didnt feel guilty modifing wartime radios.
