That's exactly it, a beautiful flathead truck engine hopped up a bit for
use in the Lincoln. You can dress it up and trick it out a bit more for use
in a Ford project, and since none of these 'creations' are much good for
anything beyond straight line street or interstate cruising, the 'slug'
factor is irrelevant to the end result as far as keeping it in the family.
The GM automatic tranny is another matter, since Ford didn't yet have one.

This is for the older rigs like '49 Mercs, Lincolns, and so on that get
bastardized with GM engines. I use that term loosely since these types of
vehicles aren't for the purist/collector. For newer models there are more
choices from the 289 to the 460.

I always liked the looks of the Offenhauser heads, which is why the 337
looks like a fun engine to rework. Just adding some nickel-plated cap nuts
would be a step in the right direction.

A few years back at the Barrett-Jackson auction in AZ, the top selling
vehicle was a Lincoln Zephyr hot rod that went for several million as I
recall. It had the correct V-12 in it which was never a great engine, but
they had reworked it and dressed it up incredibly well so it added
considerably to the value. It was the kind of engine any motorhead would've
been proud to have sitting in their living room as industrial art.

No ARC-5s in it either, just the same views/opinions on what is right or
wrong for a given subject.
