Actually, while I appreciate totally un-modified equipment for
historic value, and for installing in period aircraft, as long as there
are enough pristine examples, I do not get exercised over properly-done
modifications. This is analogousto the hot rod-restorer split among car
guys. I guess I do get a little bilious over a '32 Ford painted in a
hideous color with a Chevy in it, compared to a beautifully-restored
original, (I get more bilious over bad fiberglass copies) But many
hot-rodded cars were rust-buckets that would have beenscrapped.
I have a traditional-style 1967 30 ft sailboat that I like better
than boatsthat look as though they are readyto take off from Cape
Canaveral. I even more love character boats like my old 1928 Tancook
Island schooner, but it was wood and eventually went the way of old wood -
I was once captain of a foundation's 125 foot wooden Baltic trader
schooner, but it, too, went the way of wood. The last owner had it sink
under him, offshore. No one died, so I guess that was a poetic way for
the ship to go -
