As virtually all would have, if not for the surplus market and amateur
demand.

It's always easy to sit here today and look back with 21st century
circumstances and something done in the mid-20th century and condemn or
otherwise degrade it. Hams back then didn't have the option of $100
FT-101s, TS-820s or whatever else. They made do with what was available and
they could afford, which along with the end of WWII created the perfect
climate and demand for surplus ARC-5 and Command sets, among so much else.

I'm thankful every day for the hams who created the demand and bought these
rigs, regardless of what they chose to do with their property. Looks like
there was no shortage, as many clean ones got squirreled away and continue
to surface. And the badly hacked examples make excellent parts donors.
