[ARC5] Questions on the R-25/ARC-5

I agree, Dave. But your comment brought to mind that I have what appears
to be one of the 2% that were done well, an R-27 that has had a bandspread
mod made. When I saw the receiver and another one several years ago at a
local hamfest in a dimly lit parking garage on a rainy morning I thought it
was brand new except for the adapter and only when I looked carefully at
home did I realize that the tuning dial reads from 6.8 to 7.5 instead of 6
to 9. The dial ticks and numbers have been meticulously hand done and the
front panel adapter is pretty much professional quality. All of the screws
were in the right places (Miracle!) and the internal components seem to all
be there, even the dynamotor and rear panel connector. I"m a little
sheepish that I've never powered it up so I just tried it with one of those
48V power supplies. 24V on fils and 48V HV, draws 9 mA and I picked up an
SW broadcast station at 7.5 on the dial. My TS-440S says the station is at
7490.

So, this one will stay as is, a little monument to someone who actually
knew how to do a neat, workmanlike and effective job.
