than-a-little "distorted", worn, damaged, whatever you want to call them. In any case, they are 
no longer properly shaped. I'll bet if you examined the contacts under a glass you would find 
them with ridges where they should be smooth. There is really terrible "contact bounce" 
occurring.

I have had SOME luck with very carefully removing the cover from a vibrator and VERY 
carefully "dressing" the contacts.

I am wondering if you wouldn't be better off replacing the vibrator with either a new one (good 
luck on that!) or simply replacing the vibrator with a solid-state substitute built into the old 
vibrator-can?

I know the last wouldn't SOUND the same, but I'll bet it would be much easier to filter.
