[ARC5] TU-4 and APN-1

I have a mint APN-1, bought from G&G Surplus in NYC in the early 1970's. I used to hook up power to it, stick a screwdriver in the transmitter output jack, and observe a black line on the screen of a TV set tuned to Channel 14. It was so neat to hear that dynamotor whir up to speed and that VR tube light up.

I have the indicator for it as well.

And the USSR certainly DID NOT get a license to produce the B-29 and its engines. It came as a rude shock indeed to the West when TU-4's along with a cargo version, the Tu-70, overflew a parade on 3 Aug 1947. The Bear bomber is descended from the B-29 as surely as the B-52 is. Those few B-29's we lost cost us untold billions of dollars and drove the need for the DEW line and all those fighter interceptors we built. All this is detailed in an excellent series of article in Air Enthusiast magazine in 1971.
