Actually, visible light photons do not have enough kinetic energy to ionize
an atom. UV does, that is why UV
is called ionizing radiation. Visible radiation may help pump an atom to a
slightly higher energy state but the energy of a visible
photon is less than the first ionization potential for all elements.
