Ah! I see what you mean from that photo...but that is not what is happening: 
the port side of the bow is in shadow so you couldn't see what is happening 
there anyway.

Also, if you blow that photo up, it is very clear that the rifles of the three 5" 
gun turrets on that side are pointed at the same target, and the elevation is 
almost identical.

There are other photos of the Iowa and the Missouri firing broadsides in that 
link that Geoff provided. These photos are taken from directly above each 
BB. From these is it quite clear that the ship is not moving sideways.
