I had found the VHT to be unsuitable for repainting a BC-348, where a thick coating was not usable due to the need to preserve the markings. But for the equipment case I had no such worries and the VHT did not do too badly when applied thickly.

Hi,

I don't have a huge collection of mil type gear but I do have some. My
interest is in *using* it. Not hacking..using. I have used that black
marker trick to cover tiny spots of bare aluminum showing through the
black wrinkle. For my purposes it looks very good. From a short distance
away I don't see it at all. Up close (operating the radios) I can easily
see it if I am evaluating the paint job. I am usually not evaluating the
paint job so the flaws are pretty well masked. If I was a *collector*
and wanted something pristine I would not be satisfied with the results
I got. Your mileage may vary. It certainly won't cost very much to try.
