I think BC-221 frequency meters are on topic on this
list, otherwise my apologies.
I just fired up my BC-221, which has been in storage
for many years and am pleased to report it came up fine. I
brought it up on a metered Variac, no smoke or odd noises or
smells. Mine is in a wooden case with an RA-133A power
supply in the bottom. I have the original calibration book
and headphones. This one was made by the Allen D. Cardwell
company. The supply has a stamp indicating it was MFP in
December of 1948, the label has a contract date also of
1948. The meter itself and the case have contract dates of
1945 on them. This version has a built-in modulator. The
case and the calibration book both have schematics for the
main chassis but not the power supply so I will have to look
for one. Also, the power supply is just sitting loose in
the bottom compartment, I have not looked to see if there is
some way of fastening it down. The front of the bottom
compartment has a hole with a couple of fender washers which
I assume was for fastening a battery in place. Perhaps
someone here knows. Its been at least fifteen years since
I've had this thing out and fired up. I have no memory any
more of where I bought it or how much it cost other than it
was probably fairly cheap or I would never have gotten it.
