During most of WW II, I lived in Oneonta, NY which
was the location of the central shops of the Delaware
and Hudson RR. I remember periodic blackout drills
several times a year.
I also remember an auto trip across NY state to visit
grandparents in Chautauqua County in western NY state.
In the middle of broad daylight, we were stopped for
an air raid drill in the town of Addison, NY for about
1/2 hour. This was and still is, a very small town with
nothing but what were then Erie RR tracks running through
it. I had always wondered why they were so worried,
especially when I got older and realized how unlikely
it would be to have a Luftwaffe air raid in the middle
of the day!
I now believe it was probably 99% psychological to
bring civilians into "oneness" with the war effort.

> The Russian Lend Lease program ran until (about) 1949. It was a giveaway of about Nine Billion dollars worth of so called "Aid". A book titled "from Major Jordan's diaries" by Maj. George R Jordan USAAF, gives a pretty good eye opening account onwhat went thru the "Pipeline" , during his watch, between Great Falls, MT; Fairbanks, AK and Russia, during WW2. Ton's of HF/VHF gear. Maybe we can find some NIB ARC-5's from there?
