The SCR-522-A is very arguably the most important aircraft radio
set of the entire WWII ETO. The SCR-274-N of which we are all so
fond became little more than a foot note after the SCR-522-A.

I've spoken with a WWII radio tech for a squadron of cargo aircraft
in the WWII ETO. He said that many aircraft had the SCR-274-N, the
SCR-287-A, and the SCR-522-A. He stated that the only set that saw
any real use was the SCR-522-A. But he hated its lack of frequency
stability with temperature changes, and how much work it was to
re-channel to new frequencies.

It's not a pretty set...but if history is important, it dwarfed
the SCR-274-N in operational importance and in pilot preference.
