The contract date on the BC-224-A that came down from Phil 
(http://aafradio.org/flightdeck/1935/BC-224-A.html ) is 12 June 1936.  
Its general characteristics and sensitivity are almost identical to its 
BC-348 successors, especially the double ended tube variations.  The 
differences are pretty subtle, at least on the ham bands.  An altogether 
amazing receiver for its time.
