The government began to cancel defense contracts in the fall of 1944 
when Germany and Japan both seemed on the verge of collapse. Several 
A.R.C. contracts were canceled. On another front, the government also 
lifted the ban on auto racing that fall and a couple of races were held. 
Then the Japanese started using Kamikaze tactics and the Germans 
counter-attacked at the Battle of the Bulge and the racing ban was 
reimposed and a lot of production contracts renewed also.
