I wonder the same. Assuming they weren't installed before/during WWII,
perhaps it was done since excess aircraft were parked out there for
later use or sale, before the days of big DRMO auctions and such.
Spares could've been sent there to be kept nearby for use until they
were indeed or declared excess/obsolete. Kind of a master aircraft
motor pool, for lack of a better description? "What's it say on the
box? Aircraft radio? Send it to XYZ in AZ." If so, it might've been as
simple as where it was located as to how it was handled or where it
was sent.
Just a WAG on my part. No science involved.
