I think it would be fair to mention that most of those German tanks were
knocked out by US and British fighter bombers. We did have -total- air
superiority. Tank on tank I don't know of many who wouldn't agree that
the Panzer IV's and especially the Tigers were
superior to the Shermans. We lost thousands of Shermans in France and
almost none of them were lost to the Luftwaffe. We could afford the
losses, they the Germans, couldn't. WWII was won in a large part by our
overwhelming production capability and far superior intelligence system
ie. code breaking, deception, and support to and from allies. This is
not to slight the courage or quality of our fighting men and women.
They were a match for any on earth.
