Or at least keep it from being rotated again.

My understanding is that many, if not most, tank crew casualties were 
caused by their own internally-stored main-gun ammunition being set 
off or set on fire from external hits.

There were eventually installed in some tanks, water-filled storage 
tanks for main-gun ammo.
