[ARC5] FYI - Noise meters

I have several models of the Stoddart "Noise Meters" with their shielded
loops here. There are three loops for each receiver: one is 1 inch in
diameter, a second one is 6 inches in diameter and the third one is 3 feet in
diameter.

They use twin-ax to connect to the "Noise Meter"s.

I also have large, wooden tripods on which to mount the loops, and carrying
cases for all the accessories.

These so-called "Noise Meters" are in actuality extremely high quality
receivers which include very accurately calibrated signal strength meters.

Every manual I have for each version of these receivers explains in
excruciating detail how to measure field strength, field patterns, and ERP.

The receivers I own cover from 30 Hz through 10,000 MHz, which is
practically from DC to daylight.

I am missing the model that covers down to 3 Hz (!) and the one that covers
from 10 KMHz to 30KMHz. (Drat!)

All of these receivers are tube-based.

The one I particularly like is the NM-20(*) which covers 150 KHz through 25
MHz, and includes a tunable BFO and variable selectivity. The tubes in it are
all battery-types, and it has provision for internal batteries, although it also
has an external AC supply in which all voltages are regulated.

I have quite a number of the AN/URM-6, which is the Navy version of the
Stoddart NM-10 model Noise Meter. It covers from 14 through 250 KHz. I
have at least two complete sets, and several receivers which do not include
the accessories.

I am not quite sure what to do with them, but they are far to beautifully made
to either throw away or to cannibalize.

Nonetheless, I will probably do one or the other with at least some of them.

I have a very bad case of TMJ (Too Much Junque) here... :-(
