Well fuses protect against secondary damage such as overheating and fire
but the bucking transformer minimizes the chance of insulation breakdown
in the first instance. If a breakdown occurs despite the presence of the
bucking transformer, then your fuse prevents that breakdown becoming
a much bigger issue.
