This brings up a problem I've encountered in working
on cameras and other equipment: the manufacturer specifies
some oil or grease by maker and that lubricant is no longer
available plus no specifications can be found. Bendix
probably did not make their own grease but repackaged
something suitable. Collins specifies a grease somewhere in
a service note for the R-390. The grease is long
discontinued but I was able to trace the original military
spec to a new spec number and then to several currently made
greases. There are many kinds of greases available. I find
information on them to be somewhat confusing. A grease
consists of oil in a binder of some sort intended to keep
the oil on the surfaces where its needed. The binder has a
large effect on the ability of the oil to lubricate so its
very important to choose the right one.
