Hi Les,

Thanks for your reply - the water may swirl the other way down the drain 
but at least reactance works the same, I think, hi.  I wasn't very clear 
as it was the core and magnetic losses I was wondering about -  but 
while they probably all contribute the primary factor is probably just 
the increase in reactance at the lower frequency. My guess is that those 
like Gonset just designed their transformers around 60 hz. operation and 
thus there wasn't a problem running off the vibrator at around 2x that.
