[ARC5] Peeling Paint Perplexities

I'm working to resurrecting an RCA Light Aircraft AVT-112 transmitter
so I can use it to help resurrect an associated AVA-126A power supply.

AVT-112s are infamous for the gloss gray paint
on the front panel peeling-away.
The paint on this one was too far-gone to save.
I've completely cleaned it away:

The paint in the deeply-engraved lettering and logo are intact.
We both know- if I even try to repaint this panel,
the original lettering will be completely goobered-up.
No silk screen- the lettering's engraved, not screened.
Trying to screen them on will look worse
than no paint at all.

Frankly- l kinda like the way it looks.
I'm thinking of giving it a good clear-coat
to protect it and call it "good."
Any thoughts?
