Relating to the subject, My late uncle, an ex-AAF radio operator on
both B-24 and B-29 aircraft and operating in the Pacific and ending up
on Tinian, mentioned to meat some point that they flew missions and,
among other things, were looking for Japanese emitters around certain
specified frequencies. What this related to, and known to him only
after the fact, was the info gathering for signals that could
potentially interfere with the fuse system(s) of the special weapons.
It also seems to me that our heavies didn't do too much active ECM as
compared to some ELINT (others far more conversant can comment on
this). The B-29, of course, carried both the ARR-5 and the ARR-7. My
uncle never mentioned that ART-13 or BC-375 (?) accessory box that
generated intentional interference. I'm supposing that equipment came
out after he was gone from the AAF. I really wish I had had the
presence of mind to do a real good radio de-brief with him over the
years as he /was/ the history. I didn't and I now regret it. It always
works this way, doesn't it.......... Does anyone actually have the "A"
model of any of these receivers?
