Which set do you want to build, Ian?
PL-types are for SCR-274N.
6000-series are nominally for ATA/ARA
9000-series are nominally for AN/ARC-5
In practice, the lines between the types
weren't that rigid.
I'll work-up and post a table this evening,
unless the work phone rings.
The PL- and 9000- series have sub-sets-
those with loom-type backshells and those with
ferrels for "armored" cables. The ferrel-types
are often found with the ferrel removed, a
grommet install in its place and using open-wire
cables with lacing. I don't remember having
seen any 6000- series with loom backshells,
but my old thinker slips gears these days...
In actual practice, Navy 6000 and 9000 series
ferrel or grommet types were often mixed in installations.
I've seen photos of loom, armored cable-with-ferrel
and open-wire-with-grommet Army installs.
Even quite a few that had the ferrel still installed
with laced open-wire cable tied to the ferrel.
In all the photos I've seen, whatever scheme they
decided upon was done for all connectors in a
single aircraft: all ferrel or all grommet or all loom.
1930s and early WWII cabling almost always
used the "armored" (or sheilded, if you will)
cable and mid-to-late WWII photos almost
always show open-wire-with-lace, probably
because fault isolation and repair of such
cabling is far faster than pulling another
armored cable.
With sources of connectors drying-up fast,
people may have to become less "picky"
about which connectors they use.
I built a 274N set for a friend to use and
snuck-in a few "salty" connectors until the
"ground-pounder" ones become available.
