helllo guys , one last word as a zero enthusiast . some facts. designed in 1937 by jiro horokoshi chief designer of mitsubishi to an "impossible" specification by japanese navy , and based on his earlier design , the "claude". built of sumimoto metals aluminium alloy 7075 which was extremely light and stiff, but brittle and prone to corrosion. weighed only 3,740 lbs empty .range at normal cruise 1,160 miles , long range cruise 1930 miles. normal speed 316 mph. armament 2 x 20mm cannon and 2 x 7.7mm machine guns. no self sealing tanks or pilot protection. stalling speed below 60 knots.
my particular hero is saburo sakai , who shot down 68 american aircraft , and after the war said he would never kill another living thing, not even a mosquito. with his permission i had his name painted on my aircraft. alan G4GEN
