In "When Worlds Collide" there's a scene when the Doctor and the Pilot are about to get into it, and the fella listening to a distress call on the Hallicrafters turns up the volume using the BFO switch, IIRC. 

My Dad was an Aircraft Traffic Controller and always loved the Control Tower scenes in TV/movies. His two favorites were "Airplane" (laugh himself silly) and the beginning of "Close Encounters" - That one was dead-on based on similar UFO incidents he'd been involved in. Said it always made his skin crawl.........
