While a lot of W tubes are ruggedized the W
specifically means the tube was made for a government
contract, either directly for the government or for a
contractor. Some W tubes may have had special
specifications or constructions, such as being vibration
resistant, but its very difficult to find the information.
In general they are directly interchangeable with standard,
i.e., non-W tubes.
