I've owned several examples of BC-312/342s several models of the
BC-348. The 348 is nicer to look at and is much lighter to haul
around. Also much easier to re-cap and is less drifty. The 312/342
is somewhat more selective but the xtal filter in the 348 works
better. The fast and slow tuning controls on the 312/342 are very
convenient, a lot of cranking can be involved when changing bands on
the 348. However in operating both receivers side by side no
significant operational differences noted, any signal I could hear on
one I could hear equally well (or equally poorly) on the other. Great
fun to operate most of the time but tough going with either on 75M on
a busy Saturday night.
