Most of the manuals for various Signal Corps radio equipment contain
a rather detailed set of instructions for performing the initial MFP
process. These instructions specify what has to be opened, what has
to be removed, what has to be taped over to prevent varnish application
(usually with very specific lists of where the tape must be applied
throughout the set). Following all that preparation, the device is
heated to below 160 F for several hours (three hours typical) in order
to drive out moisture before the MFP varnish is applied. Immediately
after the drying process, three coats of MFP varnish are applied at
15 to 20 minute intervals between application.
When all that is done, the instructions continue:
(1) Remove all masking tape...
(2) Reassemble the set and test its operation.
Last instruction: "Mark the letters MFP and the date of treatment above
the nameplate. EXAMPLE: MFP-8 Dec 44."
So there is instruction (not too specific) to "test its operation".
