In my ARC-5 service manual, those, and those others which covered the BC 
band, are called "Navigation Receivers".

Probably a good hint. ;-)

There were, however, some very few AN/ARC-5 transmitters built, the T-15, 
T-16, and T-17, which covered from 500 KHz through 2.1 MHz in three 
sections. They were called "Special Use Transmitter".
